Public Safety |
In 2002 the FCC designated a portion of the 4.9 GHZ spectrum as a public safety band. This band is for exclusive use by
public safety entities and offers the potential for secure interference free communication on a county wide basis.
Most of the mesh network vendors provide support for the 4.9 GHZ band. With the widespread availability of RF equipment
there are many opportunities for effective deployment. A possible scenario is to establish a mesh network over a given
area and equip the public safety vehicles with mesh nodes. The vehicular mesh nodes will maintain contact with the fixed
network and allow personnel to complete activities such as running vehicle and driver checks, file reports, view floor
plans and RCRA documents, have internet and email access, and view security footage.
With the fixed network in place it is also possible to quickly deploy temporary locations with network connectivity such
as a disaster command center or special event security cameras.
In addition, the vehicular mesh node will allow connections to facilities that are properly equipped. For example if a
school, bank, or bus has security cameras and a mesh node installed, officers can simply drive in the vicinity of the
location, associate with the mesh node, and view real time video of the location without exposing themselves to risk or
injury.
Wireless Consulting Services, LLC is available to assist in all stages of deployment from site evaluation, design, and
installation. Please contact us to discuss in greater detail.
